HOW IT ALL STARTED
Independently Owned and Operated
In 2015, Michelle Sowacki, a former teacher with a Master’s Degree in Education, acquired an existing daycare center in West Islip. At the time, Michelle was pregnant with her second daughter and had a young toddler. Understanding what other parents were seeking for their childcare needs, Storybook Kids was established. Michelle aimed to create a place she would want her own children to attend—a place where all the teachers are bubbly and loving, one that prioritizes what parents want, such as always being open to allow parents to get to work without following the district's closings. It's a place where everyone knows your name, your feelings matter and are heard, offering a one-stop shop that provides food, learning, and play in a safe environment.
PERSONALIZED AND FLEXIBLE
An Enviornment Free From Restrictions
By getting their name out in the community, Storybook Kids went on to cultivate an excellent reputation in the surrounding areas. All three of Michelle’s children attended the program, enhancing her understanding of what parents look for. She implemented positive changes to the program, such as fostering great communication between parents and teachers. While other schools were still distributing paper, Storybook Kids advanced with the times by giving parents access to communication apps on their phones, where they could receive pictures and updates throughout the day.
